Alhumdulillah the Holy Quran has always been a part of my daily life ever since I started reciting it.
Back then I did not get to learn how to recite the Quran with Tajweed rulings.
At first attending Iqra class was just to accompany my grandchildren if I did not have any plans of going out. As usually during the weekends I will visit the elders in the family, attend weddings or meet up with my siblings.
Alhamdulillah with the blessings of Allah swt, a path to unlearn and relearn the Quran with Tajweed was opened for me.

Only after having attended Ustaz Sameer’s classes, I learned that tajweed is an important aspect of reciting the Quran. Since then, I make it a point to be present for our Iqra classes at Masjid Wak Tanjong. Even if I had to visit someone or go out with my siblings I only do so after the class.
In the Iqra class we do not only learn Quran recitation with Tajweed, we also learn about the sciences of the Quran and read a book by Imam An Nawawi – Etiquettes with The Quran. These two topics have also widened my perspective on how the Quran was compiled and how to handle the Quran when reciting it.
GIVEN MY AGE I SOMETIMES STRUGGLE TO GRASP THE TAJWEED RULES OR MAKHRAJ (ARTICULATION POINTS) OF THE ARABIC LETTERS) BUT I WILL NOT LET THIS STOP ME FROM MY NEW LEARNING JOURNEY WITH THE QURAN.
Since my grandchildren are quite well versed in their knowledge of reciting the Quran, whenever I practice at home, I will ask them to listen to and correct my recitation. May Allah swt bless them always. Ameen.
With that I would like to share a Hadith on the Virtue of Reciting the Holy Quran to inspire anyone to start their journey with the Quran.
Narrated Muhammad bin Ka’b Al-Qurazi:
“I heard ‘Abdullah bin Mas’ud saying: ‘The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “[Whoever recites a letter] from Allah’s Book, then he receives the reward from it, and the reward of ten the like of it. I do not say that Alif Lam Mim is a letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter and Mim is a letter.“
From this we can see that just by reciting one page of the Holy Quran a day one would have amassed a lot of rewards.
InshaAllah may Allah swt bless all of us with barakah in our time to learn about Him and His Holy Quran. Ameen.
