Virtues of Rajab

“There are 5 nights in which du’as are not rejected: the eve of Rajab, the 15th night of Sha’ban, the eve of Friday, on the eve of Eid Al-Fitr, and on the eve of Eid Al-Adha”

Our Beloved Prophet ﷺ, Al Suyuti in Al-Jami’

Fast and seek repentance through Istighfar.

Fasting on the 1st, 15th and 30th of Rajab is equivalent to fasting for a full month. We need to constantly remind ourselves that it is our duty to put Allah ﷻ on the highest of pedestals. Remember Him often in these months.

On the 27th night of Rajab, the Prophet ﷺ was taken to Isra Wal Mi’raj (The Night Journey and Ascension to the Heavens). This was a great and glorious night, as is known to most Muslims, in which the Prophet ﷺ met his Lord ﷻ and was given the commandment to perform the five daily prayers.

THUS, RAJAB IS ALLAH’S ﷻ MONTH IN WHICH HE POURS HIS MERCY UPON THE PENITENT AND HE ACCEPTS THE ACTIONS THAT PEOPLE HAVE DONE FOR HIS SAKE.

When Rajab entered the Prophet ﷺ would say:

اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا في رَجَبٍ وَ شَعْبَانَ وَ بَلِّغْنا رَمَضَانَ

Allahumma barik lana fi Rajabin wa Sha‘ban wa ballighna Ramadan

O Allah bless us in Rajab and Sha‘ban and enable us to reach Ramadan.

Ahmad, Bayhaqi, Tabarani

Scholars, as well, have said: “Rajab is the month of repentance (Istighfar), and Sha’ban is the month of sending peace and mercy (Salawat / Durood Shareef) upon the Prophet ﷺ, and Ramadan is the month of Quran.

So, have more self-control and self-restraint in these special nights and do not engage in heedlessness.
