The Return Trip

A night before, preparing for this Umrah trip felt different.

Apart from the regular preparations of travel essentials, something felt deeply amiss.

It felt like we were preparing to return to Allah literally [death]. It sank in, albeit at the 11th hour.
What have we truly prepared when we actually return back to Him? It could be tomorrow. It could be today.
What is worthy of being presented to Him when we meet Him?
Are we actually ready?
Aren’t we supposed to be always ready?

Have we packed a heart filled with filth and sins or are we going to present a dutiful heart which yearns and centers around Him attentively?

The funny irony is, despite us turning away, He extends His Merciful invitation and allows both the sinners and the saints into His Home to partake of His Hospitality. He washes and elevates. He gives and gives with no expectations in return. Just acknowledgement, love, thanks.

Here we are again, oh our Lord! For we have no refuge and guardian other than you. Shamelessly, we ask again, “Oh Lord, extend your generosity, pardon our negligence, and accept us into your Home with all our shortcomings”
