It Was Unlike Any Other

For the past twenty-four and a half years, I’ve never really open the Quran once. Every solat, I’ll be reciting the same chapter over and over again. I had this mindset that what I was doing was already bare minimum, and I didn’t need to remember all the chapter. My life was filled with music, and with music, my emotions will always fluctuate depending on what music I’m listening to. As I grew older, few clips of the Quran recitation started appearing on my social media page. At first, it was only once per day, but as time passes by, more recitation clips started appearing. As I listened to them, I started to feel calm. It was unlike any feeling I’ve felt before. A calmness that can only be felt by listening to the Quran.

Overtime, I went from just listening to the recitation to memorising the chapter that I personally resonated with. Surah Ad-Dhuha and Surah Ash-Sharh are my favourite chapters. I kept listening and memorised them when I was still new to Quran. The meaning behind these two chapters touched me so deeply that it is now my comfort chapters. I go to these chapters when I’m going through hard times.

In Ad-Dhuha, hearing directly from Allah ﷻ that He is not displease or disappointed in me was such a reassuring verse. To know that despite the huge sins I’ve committed, and the hardship that I’m going through, Allah ﷻ is always there for me, by my side, and that what I’m going through is not Allah’s Wrath, but rather a test for me. To top it off, Allah ﷻ reminds me that the hereafter is better for me than the dunya, reminding me that I shouldn’t be too attached to the dunya, and instead focus on the akhirah.

In Ash-Sharh, after Allah ﷻ has reassured me in Ad-Dhuha, Allah ﷻ tells me that:

“So, surely with hardship comes ease. Surely with that hardship comes more ease.”

Quran 94:5-6

It felt like Allah ﷻ was personally calming me down during the tough times and once I’m calm, Allah ﷻ tells me to be positive about the future. MashaAllah, I love these two chapters and ever since I started learning about these two verses, I started becoming more curious and explored the rest of the chapter.

Alhamdullilah, I’m now able to remember more than what I knew back then, and I’ve been spending more time with the Quran as it has become a part of my routine that I look forward to in my day.
