The Most Grateful Slave

As the moonlight seeps through the onyx night,

You send life back into my soulless plight

To emulate your strive.

Oh my beloved, how did you stand with such might?

“ Shall I not be a grateful slave? “

Tears leaving imprints and flooding with no save

Till your feet cracked and swelled, standing with unbearable pain.

Oh my beloved, why are you in such disdain?

“Ummati, Ummati “

Your final breath carried our pain

“Ya Habib, Ya Habib” I call in regret

I left you barefoot in faith and turned away.

My eyes are dry, wandering aimless through this life,

Untethered from the ticking of time,

Chasing echoes dressed as lies.

Until one lonely night, I lift my gaze to fractured skies,

Broken, stripped of all my armor,

My heart bleeds words my lips denied

The moon illuminates the sky,

Nur piercing through my blinded eyes,

“ Ya Qamarun” I softly cry,

You guided me back to follow your light.
