Peace be upon you, oh Prophet of Allah, the mercy to mankind, the one more beautiful than the Moon, the one whom Adam (a.s) sent salawat upon for his wedding dowry, the one who’s Ummah Musa (a.s) wanted to be part of… The ummah that I get to be a part of.

The ummah that Allah (s.w.t) has allowed me to be a part of. Sometimes I feel undeserving — I make so many mistakes and sins even sometimes on the way to class or prayers at the masjid, sometimes even during my prayer!

And I worry, and worry that I might be a hypocrite. May Allah help me purify my heart.

During a particular Wednesday night class, I walked in with my usual laundry list of sins. Ustadz Sameer began listing a series of Sunnah acts — praying tahajjud, reciting Ya Seen, praying duha — which somehow, I had managed to complete all of them.

For a moment I was amazed. Did I really do all of that today? But then the thought struck me, Did I really do all of that today? A sinner like me? The hypocrisy in my heart always bears its ugly fangs, and it is unknown if I will ever overcome it.

I don’t even know if my deeds are accepted. I was not blessed with eloquence in my words, to sing in praise and prose. Though I hope to someday.

I hope to present this love letter to the prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم(, through my actions rather than my words, someday.

I hope to present them through my actions in following the Sunnah of the prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم(.

My character, my deeds and my actions — even though I am a far cry in every way.
