The Month of Selawat is upon the Beloved.

“Indeed Allah and His angels bestow their prayers upon the Prophet. O you who believe, bestow prayers and peace upon him in abundance.”

Quran 33:56

This Quranic verse was revealed in the month of Sha’ban which is a great blessing for humanity as it invites the believer to join in the communal divine act of sending selawat to our Prophet ﷺ.

So let us aim to send at least 100-300 selawat every day upon our Beloved Prophet ﷺ and attain the Mercy of Allah ﷻ through the intercession of our Prophet ﷺ in these blessed months.

This is the Month of Divine Gaze and Mercy.

Our Prophet ﷺ has said:

“It is a month where people tend to neglect, between the months of Rajab and Ramadan. It is a month in which the deeds are raised to the Lord of the Worlds ﷻ, and I like my deeds to be raised while I am fasting.”

Sunan An-Nasa’i 2357

There are five nights in which du’a (supplication) is not rejected: the eve of Rajab, the 15th night of Sha’aban, the eve of Friday, on the eve of Eid Al-Fitr, and on the eve of Eid Al-Adha.

Al-Suyuti in his Al-Jami‘

“Verily, Allah ﷻ gazes at His ﷻ creation in the middle of Sha’ban and forgives all His ﷻ creations except for those who attribute partners to Allah ﷻ (shirk) and those who have rancour in their hearts towards others.”

Sahih Ibn Hibban

“On the 15th of Sha’ban, wake up to observe the vigil-prayer in the night and fast during the day, for Allah ﷻ descends to the nearest heavens from dusk to ask: Is there anyone seeking forgiveness so that I may forgive him?

Is there anyone seeking provisions so that I may provide him?

Is there anyone facing tribulations so that I may protect him? (and it goes on)

Is there anyone this and that’ until the sun rises at dawn”

(Narrated by Imam Ibn Maajah)

Recommended acts in Sha’aban:

  1. Seek knowledge
  2. Forgive others
  3. Increase our consciousness of Allah ﷻ by realising our dependence upon Him ﷻ
  4. Increase in Selawat upon our Prophet ﷺ
  5. Extra acts of devotion to remember Him ﷻ
  6. Fast, especially on the 15th of Sha’aban
  7. Recite 3 x Yasin on the 15th of Sha’aban (the practise of the pious)
  8. Charity

اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا في رَجَبٍ وَ شَعْبَانَ وَ بَلِّغْنا رَمَضَانَ

“O Allah bless us in Rajab and Sha’ban and enable us to reach Ramadan!”
