If the Veils were Lifted

One cannot help but wonder

if the veils over our eyes were lifted,

could our hearts withstand what truly existed?

The weight of divine presence,

the expanse of the heavens,

the very point where our Prophet ﷺ ascended to meet his Beloved.

To imagine you standing as Imam for all the prophets,

to reflect on your night journey and ascension,

The striving, patience and migration between cities for the sake of Allah alone made the distances we travelled small,

and the sacrifices you made immeasurable.

A land dense with the maqams of prophets;

Ibrahim, Musa, Yunus, Ya‘qub, Ishaq, Yusuf, and many others saints.

To hear their stories is to learn of lives filled with trial, loss and rejection.

Never once did they turn away from their Lord,

instead they showed us what it meant to surrender and strive for His pleasure.

And still, they desired to be of the ummah of my prophet ﷺ.

A reality that is humbling, to comprehend the honour we carry, simply by belonging.

And to ask ourselves honestly,

do we live in a way that gives this honour justice or are we just pretending?

With that we try and say, Labbaik Ya Rabb, here we are at Your service.

With the little that we bring, I hope You are pleased.

Assalamualaika Ya Rasulullah, please don’t forget me.

Gather us among your ummah, and grant us your intercession, only by His decree.

Invited to the three sacred cities, not because we were worthy, but only by His Mercy.

Carried by the prayers and guidance of our teachers and parents, allowing our hearts to keep returning.

Invite us back again and again, better each time.

A better servant to Allah, and a truer follower of you, Ya Rasulullah.
